New to the neighborhood? Congratulations and welcome, you're living in my favorite neighborhood in Jersey City. Of course, I'm a bit partial given that we own a c. 1870 brownstone in the Harsmimus Cove historic district. Jersey City is the most diverse city in the country, so we have some amazing food options! Here are 10 of my favorite restaurants in downtown Jersey City.
This is our neighborhood spot. Great atmosphere, great beer list, great sandwiches. Shockingly affordable too. My favorite is the crispy chicken sando with cajun fries. Super dog friendly!
Delicious tacos, salsas, and fresh tortilla chips. My favorite is the cabeza taco, but you can't go wrong here! They also make a mean margarita. Sister restaurant from the same owners: Los Cuernos in Newport.
Our local outpost of an upscale, authentic Chinese chain with other locations in Flushing and Manhattan. Our favorites are the Peking duck, fried tofu with seafood, and braised meatballs.
Another Manhattan transplant, this time specializing in the mala numbing spicy dishes of Sichuan province. Don't sleep on the green peppercorn chicken, mapo tofu, and
Very cool little speakeasy located underneath Bareburger on the Newark Ave pedestrian plaza. The wagyu sliders are amazing. They have tasty and creative cocktails and a great mocktail list too.
Absolutely amazing baked goods. I love the scones! The breakfast sandwiches are also super popular, but I'm more of a pastry person myself. Very limited hours: Thurs - Sun, 8AM to 12PM. They sell out on weekends, so don't sleep in!
Our neighborhood bbq place. Try the brisket and lamb belly! Sister property next door is Hamilton Inn, with upscale pub fare & Wednesday buck-a-shuck oysters. They also have a fun outdoor bar, Camp Hamilton.
Cuban food right on Hamilton Park. Outdoor seating in nice weather. Don't miss the ceviche de pescado, Cuban sandwich, Rumberita sampler, and vaca frita. My dog Tofu is partial to the chicharrons (and we are too)!
Top notch sushi. Beautiful space for dine-in but also a favorite for treat-yourself delivery. I usually pick the sushi and hand roll course for dine-in. The "domokase" is a nice upgrade if you're feeling a little festive.
